Stephen Schwartz & Winnie Holzman, creators of Wicked, were motivated by the 1995 Gregory Maguire story "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West".
This musical has been hailed for its expansion of the backstory of Oz, gifting The Wizard of Oz fans around the world a peek into Glinda and Elphaba (also known as the Wicked Witch of the West). WICKED, even with its main characters starting off as enemies, it is a deep tale about friendship and acceptance. With epic costume design and impressive special effects, WICKED teleports the audience straight to the wonderful land of Oz!
The broadway musical first premiered in 2003, thus it is now 21 years old. Since its inception, Wicked has gone on to surpass $1 BILLION in revenue on Broadway. Only The Lion King & The Phantom of the Opera have managed this remarkable achievement. Wicked has also DOMINATED theaters outside of Broadway, with records in Los Angeles, Chicago, St. Louis, and London.
