Broadway, New York is the foundation of yet another iconic musical, The Lion King, as it continues its successful run with one more limited showing to be held on Thursday 21st May 2026 in Providence Performing Arts Center, found in Providence, Rhode Island. With second to none decorations and acoustics found both inside and outside the previously stated theater, audiences have said that Providence Performing Arts Center continues to be one of their favored show theater venues for the longest time.

The show recounts the lighthearted yet tragic struggles of a little lion cub named Simba, who is the only successor to become the King of the Pride Lands following his father. The African savanna however is still a dangerous place, as even in this often lighthearted narrative, misfortune comes when the young prince's father and King is killed due to the intent of his wicked uncle Scar, who wishes to take over as King of these lands. The fledgling cub is forced to flee from his home and goes into exile lasting a long period of time. While away in the forest, he runs into new friends, Timon and Pumbaa, who bring joy to Simba's lonely life and include him in their group. Simba's easygoing lifestyle then takes a turn when he once more chances upon his childhood confidant Nala, who shares the plight of the people with him and asks him to save the people of his land.

This heartfelt and personal narrative of loss, true friendship, and eventual redemption is intensified by the iconic and emotional music, written by Elton John and Tim Rice. Their original songs, partnered with more music and lyrics from big names like Zimmer, Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, and director Julie Taymor have served as the foundation of the musical not just in Broadway, but also in several tours all over the world.

The original stage adaptation began on July 8, 1997, at the Orpheum theater in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was an instant box office hit and achieved almost instant success, ending up to the musical's transfer and premiere in Broadway, New York on October 15, 1997. Still running for more than 25 years since its debut, don’t miss the opportunity to witness the third longest-running production from Broadway as it arrives in Rhode Island.
